Power supply issue?

Hi peeps

Having a bit of an issue here with my computer / power supply. I'll try and explain it the best i can. The power supply is a corsair ax850, and I've had it for about 2 years 6 months now, I've never had any problems previously with it...

For a few weeks now, I have noticed if I turned my power supply off at the back, or if I unplug it completely from the wall.... When i turned it back on.. I had to wait 5, sometimes 10 minutes for the motherboard led's to return allowing me to switch it back on... Yes it was a bit annoying but i thought nothing of it really...

Well last night, I turned the power supply off and this morning, upon turning it back on, I am not even able to even get any power into the pc (it won't turn on). I've had the power supply out altogether and connected a few fans and in the case too, using the paperclip method, and it doesn't even turn on that way either. I have also tried different power cables & wall sockets... but that didn't work either :mad:

So I'm stuck here... I assume it's the power supply however I really don't have any other way of testing the system / motherboard with another one... and I'm reluctant to RMA it paying x amount of money for postage

So I ask for your opinions... Do you reckon it's the power supply?

It does sound like the PSU is faulty. You appear to have done all the tests you reasonably can.

PSU is shot. Replace.

Damn, I thought that was going to be the answer. Looks like I'm going to be without my pc for a while then.

you can always buy one and then when you get the rma one back sell it

I know it seems obvious, but have you tried a different kettle lead?

Yep, I have and and I've also tried my monitor cable, which didn't work either. Ah well, hopefully I'll get a replacement relatively quickly.

[Edit] So I have requested an RMA from Corsair which they have approved and am now waiting on a free pre-paid shipping label (I kindly asked them for one

)

I finally solved my problem... Although i received a replacement power supply, it was a faulty hard drive.... unusual how when connected, it won't allow my computer to turn on. Something must be short circuiting somewhere. Regardless, 'most' of my pc is sorted now
