Hi again,

I made a thread last week assuming my CPU was dying (I'm quick to think the worse) the reason was, everything keeps failing lately, my usb wireless adapter, my external HDD would turn off and on, games would stop working. Then someone said maybe my PSU is being maxed out. When I bought the case, the only things I had with the build was 1GB of ram, 1 optical drive and a usb mouse. Since then Ive had 4GB of ram installed, new GFX card, new optical drive and more USB devices. I'm wondering should I get a new one now to stop all this?

I just bought a wired xbox control pad for Crysis 2 (about 10mins ago in town) and as soon as I sprint or demand more then walking, it disconnects/reconnects every second. I'm wondering, if it's sucking too much power?

I'm building a massive rig next month, and my PSU price tag will be for future use aswell..

Future build will be something like

i7 2600k OC'd to 4.8ghz
8GB ram
2 optical drives, 1 SSD, 2 F3 1TB drives
GTX580 (might buy another in january)

so it has to be enough to power that too.

Thanks :)

So what do you think the issue is then mate? Does it sound like my PSU is strained? Was really looking forward to playing Crysis 2

I've also unplugged an optical drive and returned both CPU and GPU to stock speeds just to free up some power but it's still happening..

USB ports can only supply a certain amount of power, thats why you can get powered USB adapters to turn a single port into 4 or more with a AC adapter to give sufficient power.

Try running the minimum stuff, one stick of ram etc,

But its probably your PSU.

Recommended Power Supply

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 460
On your average system the card requires you to have a 450 to 500 Watt power supply unit.

lol wow 297 watts and thats before the overclock. Right I'll buy that now then, try get it for tomorrow, thanks again Stu.

Edit: Not worth getting 1000w?.

Yeah it's done it's service but I'll keep it spare as the system im using will be given to my mum or something (minus the GFX card that I could get about £80 I hope)

Just about to get the first PSU you suggested. Also is there something for additional USB's? I dont have any spare PCI slots..

(theres 2 on the board and my GFX covers 1 whilst the other is used for sound card)

Awesome, found some, only using those for mouse, keyboard. Mobo USB slots will be for HDD and Xbox control. Cheers stu, will update you when it arrives and compare results.

awesome, ordered both, least thats £100 less to pay towards this new build. Any idea how much my 460 could fetch around places?
