Power supply ok?

Hey guys,

I have just got the upgrade bug and was wondering if my Enermax 535W SLi ready PSU would be able to support an i7 overclocked setup running at 4Ghz. the system will also have an overclocked 5850, 3 hard drives and 5 fans. I also do intend to go crossfire and add another 5850 at some point.

At the moment im running a q6660 at 3.2Ghz with the above components (i7 excluding ofcourse) without any problems for a while now on that PSU.

If that PSU is not good enough what would be the appropriate wattage to go for. Links would help

Please advice as necessary.

it is quite old construction mate. it has 34A on 12V rail - that should be enough for 5850 - for sure not enough for CF.

at a rough estimate using a psu calculator your proposed upgrade could be looking to pull somewhere in the region of 490-500w. making it a tight fit, but i suppose you could give it a try, long as the stress on your psu doesn't cause it to go pop and wipe out half your vital 'organs' in the process!

That would only be if every component was at full whack though, so very unlikely, he should be ok, but deffinatly not for xfire.

Thank you for the replies. I think i might as well get a new PSU as well since im more upbeat about crossfire than before.

Any suggestions on a good psu to fit the bill? Not looking to spend a lot on it.
