looking for some help

without warning - pc wont swtich on today :(

have taken it apart and the diagnosis is as follows :

with CPU in and memory and single larger ATX power connector in it power up and cpu fans spin.

as soon as i plug in the smaller ATX power either both or each singly - and go to power on - the machine is dead .

this is replicated each time i do this - is the is problem of the power supply i wonder - it certainly doesnt seem to be a short circuit as it works with only the larger ATX power in - though CPU LED is red i assume this is because it isnt getting enough power

power supply is corsair AX750 so good quality and about 15 months old - i have been running a lot off it though

anything else I can try ?

Try the papeclip test and put a DVM onto the 2x4 pin connectors and see if your getting the volts you should be, no volts = bad PSU.

However you could still have idle volts and the PSU fail under load so it wont prove the PSU is fine.

Oh and DVM is a volt meter if you didnt know/guess, got to love TLA's

thanks for the tip - ive ordered a new AX1200 power supply anyhow as i do need more power for my rig

will be interesting to try it out and see whether it shows the aX750 failed - it should be under warranty so will send it back methinks
