Power supply pains....

I have an OCZ ModXstream pro 700w psu and I have a problem, I need two 8 pins for my asus gtx 580 direct cuii, but it only has one 8 pin and one 6 pin. What are my options?

Get a molex to 6 pin adaptor then a dual 6 pin to 8 pin.

Then you can power your card.

I had thought about this, but a quick google search and people seemed to advice against it...i'm hoping you can set me straight on this

It should be fine on a PSU like this.

The reason it is advised againsted is because people buy the cheapest PSU then expect to run a good graphics card off of it.

there is a reason that its a 6pin and not a 6+2 pin. I would not advise doing this personally.

Well they are both supplied off the 12V rail, provided you have the current then I see no reason not too, now taking a quick look at this supply in particular in seems to use 2 x 25A 12V rails ...so if you were to do this I would be looking to take the second feed off the other rail to the one your single 8 pin connector is on.

Having said that, it's not really a large amount of current for a high end graphics card, a beefy single 12V rail would be better in this scenario. This psu actually provides less current for a 700W design than I would expect.
