Power Supply Problem?

Evening All,

Have problem which I believe may be due to the power supply but just want to check to see what you guys think before I replace it.

For a while now, when I unplug my computer from the main supply and then plug it back in and when I press the power button if turns itself on for a split second (Fans start to spin, LED's come on etc etc), then turns its self back off. It take about 20 presses of the button till it finally powers back on and boots up. It is fine after this when I shut the PC down and restart it. Its only when then mains power is removed.

But now when I go to play a game, the game will start to load and then the computer dies instantly. So I'm thinking that when a game starts the GFX card goes into 3d mode and therefore draws more power which the power supply can't handle and then it shuts itself off. When it is on the desktop it is fine.

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Corsair PC2-6400 2Gb Ram
Abit IN-9 Motherboard
Gainward 260GTX
2 Hardrives (250GB & 500GB)
Blu-ray drive
Corsair 600Watt power supply.

The powers supply is nearing 4 year old now. Any think else I could try or is it a case of replace the power supply and it'll be fine.

Cheers for any help you can give.

Is there a possibility of testing the psu in another system or vice verse.

What happens when you run any stress test program like Prime or Furmark, also what are your temps like.

Hmm interesting. Tried furmark and had it running for around 10 minutes and it was fine, GPU temps didnt go above 85 and the CPU temps didnt go above 50.

Sadly I havn't got the opportunity to test the psu in another system.

Well if your running Furmark it wont be the card drawing too much power from the PSU... Not sure... Maybe a memory(RAM) fault?

Yeah I'm thinking maybe RAM. Though the computer is fine when just running in the desktop, surfing the net, playing music etc etc.

Changed the RAM today and no change, still the same problem. Start to load a game and then dies instantly. Any other ideas?

just a thought but is it one specific game or all games, if its only one game could be needs re installed or an issue with a feature it uses
