Hi guys, first time here and first time buying from overclockers, actually my first time building a new rig which is why im here I guess, anyways to the problem.
Last week I ordered a FX 6300 and some XMS3 1600 ram (* 2 x 4GB) and a Gigabyte 990fxa-UD5 for a long awaited upgrade.
So a installed everything and used my previous 6970 card and my enermax 620W power supply booted up with a long beep and then after that it was fine, after installing windows 7 everything was fine until i was putting the system under any stress which is when i would get either a restart or a BSOD.
So i updated the bios had a look round, after i did and everything seemed in order to me but i was still getting the same issue, running GRID 2 i would get a restart so again i had a quick read around and apparently something with steam games creating a problem for this motherboard and read that going to the beta bios solves this which is what i done.
After that Grid 2 ran fine so i figured i would do a memtest and that's where the problem came.
Anytime i ran the program i would get a restart after 2 - 4 seconds of running it no matter what i did, new discs, usb i just had same problem. now this was happening under any stress test in windows too.
So i proceeded to take memory out and change slots and so on, same thing. after that i tried 1 stick of 2GB 1333 Kingston Hyper X which ran fine no restart under memtest or under load.
Put my corsair back in and bam, back to same problem. figured it was the ram, but to try one more thing i borrowed a friends 700W power supply and now everything runs fine no restarts on memtest or under load everything seems great.
Now i had that same ram and CPU running in an older 790 Chipset with the same GPU & Power supply the only thing that changed was the motherboard.
Just wondering could a new motherboard actually call for that much more power that i could be getting this problem, also maybe not worth mentioning but i was getting a problem with the power button on my case with the old 620W power supply as in sometimes it would work sometimes i had to remove power from the back and wait or clear CMOS before it would work. and then sometimes it would randomly choose to start up 1 second then switch off 1 second then restart up for 1 seconds switch off and then boot up after that. wth is that?
So all in all im wondering if that power supply just hasn't got enough in it to feed my system, and is there any test i can do to test these problems.
Also after changing to the 700W supply memtest works fine but even with my old motherboard (was a cheap micro atx) memtest was fine with the corsair stuff so i didn't think it would be the memory at the time.
System:
AMD FX-6300
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5
Corsair XMS3 1600 (8GB)
Asus 6970
Enermax 620W (Changed to a OCZ 700W)
Sorry for the long post, pre-thanks for any replies
