Hi there. ive been asked to build a pc for a mate at work. weve chatted and he wants gaming pc for his son.

Ive bought an i5 2500k
Alpenfohn Heatsink with twin 120mm fans in push/pull
8GB corsair vengance DDR3
1TB Sata 3 HDD
Asus Z68 Motherboard
Sony DVDRW
Wireless N pcie card
Not got the graphics yet as the budget is very tight
I bought a storm 800w powersupply thinking that would be enough as there will probably be no more HDDs and only 1 graphics card and only a mid range at that GTX560 or similar.

when i come to put the system together, the power supply doesnt have the new 8pin power connector to power the cpu? my friends budget is already shot so if you know the cheapest psu i can buy to power this sytem I would be very grateful

Oh dear, another high end rig with a cheap, crap psu. When will people ever learn? While it should work with just a 4 pin there is no way in hell i would touch a psu like that. There is no way it will deliver 800w either. If only you came and asked first. The psu is the single most important component in a pc and is not the place to try to save money.

If you got it online within the last 7 days return it for a refund under the DSR's. If you can't then you will have learnt the hard way that to buy cheap is to buy twice. If people can't afford a decent psu then they need to save a bit more until they can and do the build properly.
