Power Supply Question.

My PSU is rated at 850W. Does that mean it is permanently using 850W, or does it mean it has the capacity to pump out a total of 850W as and when required?

So just to clarify, If I only connect a few components, that use a total of say 500 ish watts, thats all I'll be using,

Not a permanent 850 (wasting 350 watts)

A psu only draws enough power as and when required, as long you have enough overhead so it's not powering to many components so it's at full whack all the time.
