Hi,

I have recently bought a few second hand parts and been donated a few to upgrade my computer.

Now I was hoping to use my existing power supply, I will have to buy a few adaptors as it uses the older connectors.

The computer spec is:

Coolermaster ATC 200,
Enermax 431W,
Asus P5Q Deluxe,
Q6600,
4GB OCZ,
7900GTX,
WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA
LG DVD Writer.

These are the adaptors which I'll be using:

PSU Power Convertor Cable 20 pin into 24 pin
30cm Akasa 4pin Molex to 2x SATA adapter
4 Molex Pin to 6 Pin Power cable adaptor

Finally Ill need a 4 pin P4 to 8 pin adaptor. However these seem to be quite hard to get hold of, and I don't really see why they are needed. Mixed comments online of it will work with a 4 pin, to OMFG use an 8 pin.

Doubling up the wires where it plugs into the board, won't make any difference to the cable, if it couldnt carry the current through further up.

Would you recommend using a 4 to 8 pin adaptor on the stand alone rail as I expect I would risk instability if I used a molex to 8 pin adaptor instead.

When reading my motherboard manual in the past regards the 4 / 8 pin they recommended this for the extreme versions of the CPU.

You wil be fine with the 4 pin.

Berger you don't need a 4 pin P4 to 8 pin on the Asus P5Q Deluxe there is normally a cap on top of the 1st 4pins and you only remove that if you have an 8pin cable from your PSU.

You see the black cap normally there ? ;) So make sure to plug the 4 pin P4 where you see the cap missing on this picture.

Before anyone else says anything different read my pc spec and what mobo I have ;)

Thanks guys and Purgatory for the photo.

I bought the board used from a member on here who had been overclocking with it which is why the black cap is missing for me as he must have had a newer 8 pin PSU.

Ill just buy the other adaptors and be happy! Then in future I can buy a newer PSU and a non standard HSF and it will run at 3.3 ghz no problems :D

Enjoy mate its a great motherboard.. If you have the G0 Q6600 it will easily hit 3.4GHz - 3.6GHz on that board with a good CPU cooler and good PSU ;)..

You tell me, given my last computer experience was with P4's and Athlon XP's and thats what I have been using up to now!

Well all built up and running, picked up the power adaptors this afternoon. Simple enough, don't even need to worry about jumper settings on drives anymore!

Noisy CPU fan though, bearing must be going on it which is a bugger, its the stock HSF so can't just swap it out?! :(

Just had it to POST and checked the settings in the BIOS as it had been run overclocked, but back to stock settings which will do me now.

Will get an OS installed in the next few days and then see what games have been released in the last 8 years! My CD-ROM drive was dated from Feb 2002 and the old motherboard was 2003/2004!
