Hi, Im looking for a 500W or above power supply for around £50, but really as cheap as possible. Firstly, is the OCUK Huntkey one any good? The reviews on its page say that it is fine. Secondly, Ive heard bad reports about the 580W Hiper, which is the one that I was going to go for. Finally, how is the Antec Earthwatts 500W? Im tempted by the Sonata III case.

I know, but Im going way over budget with the rig as it is, and really cant afford it!!! Out of the 3 Ive mentioned, which would you go for?

And while we are at it, what do you think of the Coolermaster Praetorian case?

Never buy a cheap PSU - the PSU is the backbone.

I'm not sure I would buy the OcUK one though it would probobly be fine.

The Hipers have a record of exploding after 15 months.

The Antec's have a 10% fail rate.

I would say Corsair 520W - never get a PSU because its cheap.

I haven't really heard people comment on the Akasa PSUs. I have one on my second PC and it's been going fine for about 2 years now. Not sure on the failure rate / reliability though.

Lol, I think I may go with the Corsair-after all these recommendations, if I went with anything else and it went wrong I dont think that I could look anyone in the eye for weeks!

Just so you know, the Antec Earthwatts range are, like Corsair, built by Seasonic but to a slightly lower standard than either the Corsair or Seasonic branded units (ie they are not modular, have zero aesthetics, an 80mm fan instead of 120mm and less robust innards).

So going the Antec Sonata III route, with a 500w Earthwatts built-in is a very good option if you like the case.
