Right i was watching a video which needed a certain codex (No idea what) but it came up with a error message on windows media player classic and when i went to hit ok my computer restarted (It's never done this before).

Usual boot up starts and runs through the bios settings but then stops and comes up with the Asus Power surge protection and says it detected an unstable power supply unit?

Gives me 2 options to run default settings or run setup. I clicked default and any overclocking has been removed.

Soo what the hell is going? Is it my power supply?

I have a EVO Labs 750 ATX PSU and a M4A785T-M mobo (Micro)

Only way to know for sure is by using a PSU tester or trying another PSU. You could try resetting the CMOS to see if you can get the system to boot but it does sound like the PSU is borked.

I've managed to get into normal operations again with my overclocked profile and everything seems to be okay again... possible glitch? Although i know the onscreen readings for the voltages are never fully accurate but my +5v is reading 4.91 - 5.01 flunctuating and same goes for the +3.3v from 2.99 to 3.52v.

Is this a sign of a bad psu?

I just don't want the PSU going down and then taking out some of my other components with it... the word "power surge" just freaks me out abit lol.

It freaks us all out, but it does sound borked as philtorrens suggested.

Personally I've never heard of EVO Lab PSU's, but a quick Google leads me to believe that this was a cheap unit?

I'd consider getting a Corsair or OCZ unit for ultimate stability.

Yeah I know what you mean. Most of the time they just tend to fail in such a way that the system refuses to startup. I've never heard of EVO labs being honest so I can't vouch for how reliable your PSU is. I tend to stick with Corsair personally. You can use this to determine which PSU is best for your needs.....

Not seen many of those around tbh Jay85.

What are your full specs? Without knowing this we can't really recommend you a PSU, other than suggesting a good branded name such as Antec/Corsair/OCZ/Seasonic.

Yeah you can't go wrong with that and they are excellent PSU's. Keep in mind it's one of the most important components in your system at the end of the day so worth spending extra on.

The 2 main things im going to spend my money on right now is the case and psu, everything else i'm fairly happy with. The PSU has to be good and not give me problems like my current one has already. I was even tempted to stick my standard oem 300w psu back in today but thought i'd wait and see if this psu does die on me or not so i can get a full refund :D
