Power supply

Any input on the best power supply to get to build a system for home use.

I guess the power supply is my 1st consideration so would welcome any discussion or personnel favourites and why from anyone?

I got a 510w one off here off some gezza thats a nut case for £80. I have a mates that selling one still i bleive.

£160 rrp and they are mental rock solid and so cool

PC +P is SO loud. IMO only worth it for performance..

Mate, get the Seasonic S12 600W because its-

Incredibly silent

120mm fan

Stable

Won many awards, and easily one of the best PSU's out there

Loads of connecters for all your needs.

depends, latter ones yes but only as they have Delta's fitted.

Just about to mod mine with a silent fan

If you surplie enough coo lair to it it'll be silent, they are temp sensitive and when they spin up you know it, a good 15 mins after a fear session it's lowerers the rpm and is funny as

this is the only negative I could find for the saesonic. what would the 24-20 pin con be used for and why do they need one?

Overall, the new Seasonic S12-600 power supply produced very good results. The unit exhibited good voltage regulation with excellent stability and offers a lot of capacity on the +3.3V, +5V and dual +12V rails. The S12-600 is very quiet even when operating under a moderately heavy load and runs cooler than most.

The S12-600 uses active power factor correction and produced one of the highest overall efficiencies I have measured to date. Seasonic is to be congratulated for developing a line of power supplies that are both environmentally friendly (active PFC) and highly efficient (>80%).

On the down side, the main output voltages were a bit low when using the 24-pin to 20-pin ATX adapter cable. Even so, all measured voltages were still within the required ATX12V specified tolerances.

Is the adapter not there to allow it to be used on both old and new ATX 2.0 motherboards...

Usually the case, moderm PSU ports on the motherboard are the larger style.
