For the last few weeks my power supply has been making a high pitched whistling noise but my PC was working fine so I have left it. Last night I switched the PSU off to stop the whistling while the PC wasn't on, but this morning when I switched the PSU on and the whistling was still there but nothing happens when I press the button on the case to start the PC!!

I'm assuming its the PSU that is up the shoot and not the motherboard, would that be correct? If it is can someone recommend a new PSU? The current one is a 450W Antec SP-450P

Went for a OCZ Gamestream 600w in the end as I couldn't justify the extra expense for a Seasonic S12/M12 and from the load calculations I had made its possible the old 450W PSU was loaded close to the wire . Hopefully I won't be disappointed with the OCZ.

New supply installed, fans spin hard drives spin but nothing on the monitor not even the boot screen, any suggestions?

Try clearing the CMOS. But switch off the PSU and remove the mobo battery as well. See if that sorts it. The OCZ PSU is a good piece of kit. ;)

Cleared the CMOS but nothing... No beeps just spining fans and drives. I guess the old PSU took out the motherboard too, unless I am missing something else.

Hmm possibly. What happens with perhaps no graphics card in, or one stick of ram.... nothing? No beeps?

Nothing....still no beeps.

:( might be a b0rked board i'm afraid. Unless someone else can post some other suggestions, but you've tried pretty much everything and replaced the PSU which is the only other culprit.

I think I have pretty much tried it all.. Luckily I have found the same board from another supplier which is B-grade without CD's cables etc. Thanks for your help so far, I will let you know how I get on when the other board arrives... Anyway a lesson to be learn't, if anything is making funny noises, fix it even if the PC is still running!!

New board in but even worse off now, when I turn it on nowt happens apart from the PSU fan briefly moving ever so slightly and thats it !!! Please don't say I have another bum board! Suggestions....??

I had a PC that just went off one day!

When I tried to turn it on, all the fans (CPu, Case etc.) would spin ever so slightly and that was it!

It wouldn't do it again unless I switched off the PSU then on again and then tried!

Turned out to be a dead Motherboard. Got a B-Grade and that lasted about 4 weeks before it went the same way!

Good luck with it mate. Sorry I can't help more.
