sorry for the extremely nooby post but i completed my first build about 2 months ago, all was great, super happy with the results.

UNTIL...

i go to turn my pc on one morning and nothing happens. i check all the power plugs, all switched on. i noticed on the back of the power supply it was switched to the off position. when i turned it back no and turn the pc on...nothing, just a blue flashing light from the case.

so rather than spend hours buggering about with Antec warranties i bought a new one. A Thermaltake 550W ATX2.0. same specs as my last but beefed up to 550 from 380.

however my problem is this PSU has a big fan on the top or bottom of it which draws cool air in then exhausted out the back.

i cant work out which way it should be seated...fan on top where there is minimal space in which air can be drawn, or on the bottom which is full of hot air.

what does the web of knowledge think?

thanks

The fan should be facing motherboard and over CPU, and then you can fit an extractor to the side of these two to draw out heat from PSU and CPU!

No worries mate! What's your system specs? 380W isn't very big, I have always gone with Antec and they are extremely good PSU's. What was the age of it too?

hi, the PSU was a 380W Antec that came fitted with the Antec case i bought (mini tower).

so i fitted the new one (correctly thanks :) ) and pushed the power button.

nothing, just a flashing light which is usually a solid blue colour to indicate the power status.

i then plugged it into another socket. powers fine.

so, clearly my socket has some issues. however it will work other electricals such as my speakers flawlessly!!

very strange? what turned off the power supply swith in the first place?

i think i have ghosts. call the exorcist
