Power Supply

Guys,

I need your advice please.

I built my new rig last night only to discover my PSU a hiper 480W type r - doesnt have the six pin power connector required to fit into my XFX 8800 gts XXX graphics card.

My question is, will the Corsair HX520 520 Watt PSU have this connector??

Im hoping it will, but i obviously need to be sure.

Intel E6600
Msi p6n Platinum
2 Gig corsair xms2 6400c4
2 x36 gb raptors (raid-0)
xfx 8800gts 320mb xxx

The Corsair does have the 6 pin connector. Was there no 6 pin to molex converter with your graphics card?

If you don't want to spend money on a new PSU just yet you could get this instead:

SHouldnt the power supply of come with one anyway? i thought they had them come with them.

No the psu was bought on ebay a while back - i guess he must have left it out.

Shine, will the fact im using this adaptor have any hinderence on the overall amps supplied to the gpu?
Reason i ask, the gpu psu requirements state it should be a direct connection.

No it won't affect that its just a connector. As long as the PSU can supply the card with the juice it needs you'll be fine.

If I were you I'd dump the Hiper PSU and go for the Corsair. If you do a quick search on these forums you'll find that your very shiny PSU is liable to fail rather quickly. Mine did after three days.

Thanks for the tip, i have heard the 580w have been prone to fail.
I didnt think the 480's were!! :| , what model did you have?

It's the 580's not the other's that fail. At least i've not seen any of the other's posted on here about failing. Not that i am standing up for Hiper in any way after my 580 blew up last year.
