is it not more than 500W as i've read the 5850 gx card needs 600W alone?

The higher the better
Why didn't you recommend a 1500W PSU then?

If you actually thought on what he ment. A lot of people feel conftable going for higher as its more future proof for extra gpu's and what not. There is nothing to worry about when you get a high quality 750w Corsair.
Imo, 500w Name branded will do you fine with that build, but you may aswell get a 750w as you have the head room to upgrade. Put it this way mate. Mabey a year down the line, you want to add another 5850 but you got a 500w psu. That means you will have to get a higher watt psu so your paying for it twice mate.
If I was you, I would get around 750w Psu now, so then your fine for then you upgrade.
right. considering a 5850cf rig would suck up somthing in the region of 350-450 watts...you'd recommend a 750w psu for future proofing? just how many extra 5850's do you think the op is likely to stick in the pc?
500w is easily enough for one card. 600w is enough for two. any more and you are kidding yourself if you think you need it for two gpus.

thanks for the replies, i think i'll go with a 650W~750W Corsair one if it will be enough to run 2 Xfire later down the line.
i'll look at the other Mobo later as i am heading out the door to college now.
cheers
EDIT - i might overclock aswell so will 650W min be enough if i am running 2x gx cards down the line ?![]()
If you read the link andi posted, you will see on load, 2 5850's will push out 550w's. Then you got to take into account his cpu, will he Oc? The hard drives, the case fans. 750W is very happy and up for the job.
