afternoon all, i have a pc in the garage/man cave and it started life as a low spec machine, as the garage finally went full man cave it has been upgraded over a few years and now gets as much use as the one in the house.

it now has a x470 aorus gaming 7, ryzen 2600 2 x ssd hard drives an rx480 and lots of rgb lol.

the rx480 (4gb) is starting to struggle for me a little and at 1440 res its even worse, i spotted gibbo's quote the other day about waiting until the weekend for the vega 56 deal and ordered one today with a cheap nvme ssd.

problem i may have is the power supply that was ample when first built is only a 450w one, am i now asking too much of it and how higher should i go.

thank you for any help.

What brand/model is the PSU?

But, regardless ideally you would be looking at a quality 550W minimum for Vega 56 even with undervolting.

Just to clarify, you've got a 450W Kolink powering: X470 Aorus gaming 7, Ryzen 2600 2 x SSDs and a RX 480?

Vega's current draw spikes would very likely exceed over current/short circuit limits of 450W PSU. (unless its cheapo without those)
550W is pretty much absolute sensible minimum and some more reserve would be better.
Also single PCI-e power cable of 550W models would compromise stability of 12V and ground reference for graphics card.
Something not good especially for card capable to highly fluctuating current draw.
So 650W is good minimum.

Bitfenix Formula would be good minimum level.

Though step up Antec Earthwatts with semi-modular cabling wouldn't be much more.

For fully modular PSUs with 10 year warranty there's Seasonic Focus Gold

With Antec HCG Gold being same PSU in different clothing.

I don't know whether to be amazed or terrified.

Yes, definitely a new power supply - whats your total budget for PSU?

i am going to unplug some stuff and will not fit the vega until i have a new psu, the 10 port usb hub is full, rgb keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, steering wheel webcam mic etc and
i have no idea of the extra stress these peripherals pose, also have a creative zr sound card.

budget, i was looking at a be quiet 700w one and may choose a higher one.
