Power surge monitor

A while ago i had a mains fuse blow in my house due to a dodgy kettle I believe. After this one of my PC's and my lovely 19" TFT wouldn't even turn on.
Now my guess is a power surge? so my question is thus - will simply replacing the power adaptor/transformer fix the problem?

My thinking is that this will be the weakest link and should have popped first.

My local shop will charge me £65 for the pleasure of testing and supplying me with a new (universal) adaptor.

Oh just incase it helps, it's a generic and unbranded TFT which i believe is a jap import. Sorry for the sketchy detail

hard to say if it will work. Is it an external block? Could you borrow a similar one from anywhere? Perhaps take the TFT in the shop to test their power blocks?

Rather than the adapter, shouldn't the fuse in the monitor power cable be the first thing to fry?
