Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Oh right. What does that small dial on the bottom left side of the handle do then? And does it vary its speed via the trigger?

Appologies yes that is the speed i thought you were talking of the two large ones.

As i said not here to argue, every tool has its place or there wouldn't be multiple different versions and power ratings of the same thing.

I personally would not buy a cordless sds drill but each to thier own

Fine but my main point was that it doesn't have a variable trigger and is instead adjusted by a dial on the side.

Is that right or not, because if so you quoted me above saying I was wrong for saying the speed is varied by a dial on the side, which could confuse people reading it into thinking the trigger is in fact variable.

Nobody's arguing here, just a discussion about tools and relative benefits.

@Mark A - thanks but I've already used it as I wanted it for a job today.

No, as i said the speed is done by the small wheel the trigger is simply an on/off switch

So much for not arguing! I said i was wrong and thought you were talking re the large switches and that the small dial is for the speed.

Not entirely sure whats hard to understand about that.

No worries Marvt, thanks anyway, they were a great price, so probably snapped up.

@Participant That will be loads better than the Titan and a good price with two 4ah batteries.

I’d definitely get on there. Looking now there’s quite a lot for sale although as you say the prices for some stuff is crazy.

I got 300 Woodworker Magazines off one person. All pristine and in release order! Had the intention of sitting down with them but to date they’ve been sat in the shed in a corner untouched. If you’re interested give me a shout. Otherwise they’ll probably stay there untouched for another year!

I believe there is some brand snobbery involved in peoples opinions.

When I was on the tools I owned every bit of Dewalt Brushless kit going and it was fantastic. Spent thousands on the lot and now that i'm off the tools my current setup consists of a 10.8v Dewalt impact and drill, an Aldi battery SDS and drill for the chuck and a few bits of Macallister and Titan pieces. No brand snobbery here.

However in terms of that specific titan sds, which i have owned and promptly got rid of because its crap. whilst it does have more power it is too heavy to use it to the point that it is cumbersome for everything bar chiselling and breaking or pointing downwards. It also makes some bloody noise.

I always buy a cheap tool first to see if I'll use it lots. Hence why i still have a Black and Decker mouse sander. never use it. at least the dewalt will hold value and you can get some money back from gumtree or ebay.

When I was working we were issued with Bosch GBH 24v SDS drills - They were great had two batteries and never ran out of power - I have also used one of the new ones using 36v and that was super light. If I had the use for one now I am retired I would buy one - Instead I have a Lidl corded SDS drill and it's been fine. - I think at the time it was about £29 - bargain.

Always4lora.
My next door neighbour has a 40v mower from Lidl - he's had it 3 years and swears by it.

I think eventually cordless is going to take over and we will be amazed people used to have a wire trailing from their tools. The new 54v tools are apparently equal if not better than their corded version and you can even get cordless tables saws, mitre saws, cut off saws, hedge trimmers, chainsaws. Pretty much every tool you can think of is now available cordless.

Sadly I think it would be the same story for me :(. I haven't touched a magazine in like 15 years as there is so much information on every subject on the net. I bet there are some great articles in there though and someone would love them. Thanks for the offer though, hopefully you can find a good home for them.

DeWalt is basically Black and Decker anyway as Stanley own both. Most, if not all made in China (PRC) though. Agreed though, DeWalt holds some decent value, depending on the tool of course.

As regards to the SDS, he'll probably never use it to its' full potential. It's all about him buying into the battery ecosystem so that he can buy different skins within the XR range in future. If it wasn't for the batteries and buying into the brand, i'd have just hired a drill for the job.

What does that even mean? Dewalt made industrial saws long before B&D bought them. It was when Dewalt bought Elu that they started producing trade power tools, so if anything you could say Dewalt are basically Elu, but you'd still be way off the mark as Dewalt is its own entity now. Dewalt tools are nothing like B&D tools.

Do some research. Stanley Black and Decker own DeWalt and as such Stanley is its' parent company.

Yeah but their tools are still aimed at different markets.

Your post made it sound like they were all the same stuff. Just rebranded.

Well yes, of course they are aimed at different markets through branding and advertising. The majority of it all is made in PRC though; probably in the same factory, with the same materials.

Has anyone used this site before? I have never heard of it, but they have some good prices.

I ordered from them and the impact driver arrived no box in a bag clearly used... Complained and it took around 3 weeks to get my other drill due to having to mail it back etc.

More annoyingly cause of all the delay I forgot to register for the extra warranty with DeWalt.

For the sake of £4 saving, wished I just did Amazon prime tbh!

This logic is like saying a lambo is like an Audi A1, after all they are made by the same parent company..
