I want a De Walt cordless drill.

A 12V is big enough.

What is the best (cheapest) online retailer for such things?

From Google, there are quite a few sites that import from US and you don't pay VAT (somehow). Are these legit?

Thanks

A friend of mine has bought dewalt stuff from the USA. He said they charge you duty in the states so you don't pay british duty. Not sure if this is right or wrong tbh.

why dewalt?

Tbh bosch/makita/hitachi > dewalt.

Dewalt is just black and decker in a yellow case :(

Shame B+D got rid of elu, that kit was really the dogs ********.

De Walt is the nuts. Tis what all the trades use (I'm in the construction industry).

The cordless drills are very very light.

I'd like a big mahoosive Makita but I wouldnt buy their cordless drills.

p.s. I've got a big drill with hammer action etc.

Just want something light and nimble that I can adjust right down and use for screwing (guffaw) etc.

dewalt have lower capacity batteries 2.4 amp nicad whereas makita are 3 amp nimh, they also are much lighter and have loads more torque.

Yep and now black & decker are the budget range.

Personally, Dewalt are the best and you pay for that. Even though I have Dewalt power tools, I also got an 18v B & D for nothing last year and its a bloody good drill which I use quite a lot.

B & D maybe the dewalt budget range but they can still do a great job for non everyday use.

The expensive DeWalt cordless drills (listed as combi-drills on Screwfix) are very good, as are the equivilent Makita combi drills (14.4v and up). With the Makitas, you either get 3x2.6Ah batteries, or 2x3.0Ah batteries, which is very handy if you're doing a lot of work with the drill.

As for the lesser DeWalts; you might as well but a a Ryobi or B&Q performance power pro drill for about the same money. It'll do FAR more than a DeWalt at a similar price will.

Dewalt are great Bosch are only worth having if you get the pro range which you won't find in Homebase etc.

I'd say 12 volts is a little on the low side i use 18V DeWalt has no problem driving M8 coach screes 6" long! check out tooled-up.com.

I've got a Elu saw bench and a Elu spindlemolder/ Router as well best stuff ever, laster 30 years of pro use and still going strong.
