Hi,

Anyone in here have a Powercolor 4870x2? Have just bought this card and then discovered it (like all 4870x2 cards) requires use of an 8-pin power connector. My PSU is a 600W Seasonic S12 which, while capable, only has two 6-pin connectors. Do this graphics card come with an adapter? If not, anyone know where I can find one?

Cheers

The 6 pin connectors should be fine. I have a 3870x2 which has 1 6 pin and 1 8pin connector. I have been running it on 2 6-pin connectors for 6 months+ with no problems. Only thing is it disables the ATI overclocking facility... but then the card is fast enough lol.

Im sure ive read in here somewhere that the 4870 X2's will not work with 2 6x Pins, they require the 8x Pin, but the adapters are supplied with the cards so you should be fine.

I know the Sapphires come equipped with a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, but sadly I'm not sure the Powercolor cards do. The HIS doesn't, for instance.

Argh, am I going to need a new PSU?? :(

Definatley need an 8 pin adapter the with X2's mate.

When I tested it with 2x6 pins the card booted to a nice red error message telling me that I didn't have the correct cable plugged in.

Lucky for you though, I read on here the other day that someone received an 8 pin adapter with their Powercolor.

Hi

One or two posts on here have been from users who have been having problems with a 600W PSU and the 4870X2 . On the back of the HIS box , it recommends a 650W PSU Minimum.

You can try the 600W if you can get your hands on an 8-pin adapter but, I think you will be asking for trouble with that rating of PSU .

With msaunders' advice in mind, can anyone recommend a modular PSU that'll be sufficient, which ships with at least one PCI-E 8-pin power cable? Only one I can find on this site is the Coolermaster M700, but can't find many owners of it.

Doesn't sound like there's any guarantee. There's users still now patrolling the Corsair forums requesting the cables. I'd just like to order a good PSU which definitely comes supplied with them.

The Powercolor 4870x2 comes with a 6-8 adapter. I've got one.

I have an antec truepower trio 650 watt, with 2 6-pins, 1 now using the 6-8 adapter, and it seems to be running perfectly fine. Been stress testing the card with all sorts for the last 2 days.

Yay, grand!! :)
I may just hold off and test out the card with my current PSU, see if it works. Seeing my spec below, I'm not running a heck of a lot more off the Seasonic, which in its time was rated as a damn fine power supply. Fingers crossed it's sufficient :)

OC do it

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...rmax Galaxy 850W EGX850EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU

The only reason I got an 850W was because my 600W blew on my with a 3870X2 .... and I dont want that happening again .

Its a big PSU though so check your case size first

ALTERNATIVE:
