Basically, the family pc has started to fail to power up first time - until i flick the switch at the back of the pc - then it seems to power on. i've just replaced the cpu/ram/mobo in it.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? Hopefully not a psu on its way out!

If you have to flick the switch at the back, i'd say its on its way out. Change it before it dies completely and fries your system.

Case choice is basically gonna be whatever you like, its neither here nor there really... besides, you dont need to replace the case to replace the PSU. :p

As for the PSU, dont skimp on em. They're the life of your system, its problably the only thing that will nuke your whole system in one foul swoop if its a dodgy brand. So, in saying that... avoid Q-Tec power supplies like the plague. Go for either, a Hyper, Antec, Tagan or another brandname PSU. As for wattage, it depends on the rest of your system.

thanks for the advise. any advise on a suitable new case and psu?
Budget?
  • Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case - 380W SmartPower PSU (CA-052-AN) £41.07 incl. VAT
Don't know your spec, but that would be my choice ;)
