A lake!
As much as I loathe asking you guys what's wrong with my PC, I'm totally stuck and I have no idea how to fix it myself

So my situation is: I have 2 motherboards and 1 Hiper 580W PSU (which has not exploded).

One day, my Gigabyte P965 DS4 decided it didn't want to power up. I pressed the on button and nothing happened. So, "Maybe the power supply has died" I thought. I unplugged the board and shoved a paperclip into the 24pin plug and watched the thing come to life, absolutely fine.

Today, finally trying to remedy the situation and find out what's really wrong, I got out an Asus 965 P5B Deluxe, plugged it in and jumped the power switch header. Nothing except the blue standby light. I tried the DS4 again. Nothing.

Both boards are bare, nothing plugged in at all except the PSU. This has never caused an issue in the past as the PSU should start as normal, even though there's nothing but a motherboard there.

My question to you all is this: Is the PSU dead, or have both boards packed up? Or am I just missing something?

I've had a Hiper die on me before (well it was the brother-in-law's but I built it) with exactly the same symptoms as you've described. The PSU outwardly seemed fine but a new Seasonic fixed the problem.

If you're looking at those two then either would be fine. Both rock solid performers. If you want to go down the Corsair route choose the HX as it's modular.

By the way heh, haven't seen you in ages, what happened to your rubbish jokes? :p

I've just been reading rather than posting, I always think "ooh, I think this blah blah blah" and then decide it sounds stupid (or inappropriate or whatever) so i just move on.

I've used all my jokes up! I'll have to start thinking more up if you want me to start polluting the joke threads again.

I'm not fussed about modular cables now, I'm using most of them anyway.I'll get one ordered as soon as I'm rich enough to do so.
