Power usage whilst on standby?

I heard that TV's use the same amount of energy and power whilst on standby, but the difference is that it prevents screen burn.

What about LCD monitors. For instance would it save money to turn off 40+ monitors alltogether over night at work? or would it make no difference leaving them on standby?

An LCD monitor on standby will use about3 or 4W. A CRT might use double that.

Don't think the thing about TVs is true. Or at least, not anymore (even with CRTs).

what power would it use in regular usage? i need a comparitive value and also how much it costs per hour to have it on standby!

Would be SO much help :)

So i have found that a LG LCD (what we use at work) has a normal 35watt consumption and a 1watt consumption on standby.

This has proved the theory of buring up power whilst idle wrong for now.

Can anyone tell me how i can work out an hourly cost for that 1 watt monitor? like the equation? Is it 1watt per hour? and how much would a watt of power cost me?

(would be so grateful of this!) :)
