I bought one of these back in the day for £175 !!! and it only played 1 game !!
I knew I should have bought a 3dfx card !!

Nope.

I do however remember the Videologic Apocalypse 3D. PowerVR was the NEC designed graphics chip that it used. Did quite well for a couple of months, until the 3Dfx Voodoo graphics cards appeared.

yes I had one of them cards for Ultimate racer - it was a nice card but had no bi-liner filtering

I also had the 3dfx voodoo 1 cards in sli :p around then

A friend of mine told me about these new 3D accelerators so I looked them in a magazine that sold PC parts and saw two competing standards Power VR and 3DFX. I didn't know what was what so in the end I went with 3DFX because I liked the name better.

Haha yeah, I bought a 3dFX, then my mate bought a powerVR and was bragging for about a week before he realised the near total lack of support for them :)

I loved my old 3dfx Voodoo 1 card.

The PowerVR was a good 5 years ahead of it's time. Used a tile-based approach to rendering which more recently popped up again on the GeForce 6xxx.

PowerVR wasn't a complete waste - powered the Sega Dreamcast and there's a lot of smartphones with PowerVR graphics. iPhone anyone?
