Well, my desktop machine went pop last night and i'm pretty sure it's the PSU as I get no response at all from the machine when trying to power it up... that said, i'm happy to be corrected on this one

It's not an expensive PSU, the Antec Earthwatts 500W that came with the case I bought from OCUK... the Antec Sonata.

What I'm wondering, is whether you guys will know:

1. if I have any warranty on it that's worth pursuing
2. what PSU you'd suggest i change it too. running Q6600 @ 3GHz, GTS8800, couple of hard drives (1 SATA, 1 IDE) and a DVD drive is about it.

firstly have you tested does the rest of your pc work?

2nd, i would say obtain an RMA number first, then worry about pursuing it further
i.e. shipping costs etc

for your new psu, what budget do you have and any upgrades on the way?

I've nothing really to test the rest of the PC on :$
i don't even get a flicker of lights or any post beeps... but realise that this might not really be telling me anything.

do I go to OCUK or "Antec" for an RMA? I've never returned anything PC related before.... but this is only about 8 months old and so a little narked.

budget... i'm not really limited, but don't want to spend 3 figures really... at the same time, i'd prefer to say under £50 if possible, as i'm currently ignorant (but again, willing to be educated) to the benefits of paying lots on a PSU.

Usually within the first year I would go to OCUK, but as you bought a case with a PSU they might want you to send back both so I would first email antec and see what they say.

ok, cheers for that... will contact Antec...

while all that is happening, i quite fancy getting my PC going again, so I think i'll be buying another PSU too.
