Hi guys, I dont seem to be having much luck these last few days. :(

My power adaptor seems to be turning itself off after a couple of hours, leaving the powerbook running off of the battery. I have to unplug and plug it back in again before it will carry on powering the laptop. I've tried resetting the PMU, but it didn't fix it. Any ideas what would be causing it?

Don't the laptops stop charging the battery when it reaches full capacity?

It sounds like instead of stopping the charge cycle and switching over to AC power (after it's full) it just switches to battery mode.

As people have suggested it is probably a faulty power unit.. worth sending it off? probably not.. my advice is ebay a new one.

I have the same problem on my iBook 2005 (final reversion) the power adapter and battery have been replaced however they transformer still over heats and cuts out after a while but this may not be your problem, just sounds the same.

Mine failed after 2 and a half years. It was covered under apple care so I just got it replaced. There are plenty of OEM ones available, the place that must not be mentioned often has them, and of course Apple.

After a friend of mine (who happens to work behind the genius bar at one of the Apple stores - a handy friend to have ;)) said that he'd had the same problem and it was his four way that was the cause. I tried it on another four way in my room, it's now working fine. Only issue is that it doesn't reach from that four way to my desk so It's sitting on a chair for the time being. Guess I'll need to re-wire the room. :)
