Reports that it is a 2-week old driver, released before 3DMark.

I can understand "slow" cards for early engineering samples and compatibility testing etc. But not full retail boxed.

The guy has posted some comparison benchmarks with his GTX480. These do seem to indicate that performance is generally in the GTX480 / GTX570 arena which matches the leaked AMD Product Positioning slide.

A second user on the German forum has started to bench compared to the 5870.

We shall be stocking HIS, Sapphire and XFX for launch, plus some very cheap OcUK cards, aka VTX3D. We might have a handful of Asus too...
