Powercolor PCS+ 7870 mini-review

Very nice. I just can't see the benefit of the 7870 custom cards (presumably they'll be around the price level of the reference 7950's) as you could well buy a reference 7950 and clock it further still.

All assumptions though of course because they're unreleased so far :p

7870 and 7850's are up now £199 for a '50 and £289 for a '70.

I was going to go for a '70, but they are just far too expensive for their performance. I can buy a MSI TFIII 570 for £50 less that'll perform just as well... =/

AMD have got some crazy pricing going on this gen.

Go for the MSI 6970 Twin Frozr III instead of the 7870 then? It's on offer this week.

At least you won't have any vram concerns that the 570 could fall victim to in the near future, depending on what games you play.

same perfromance and same price as 6950 18 months later

They think we must be mugs:rolleyes:

The same performance as a 6950 lol. Did you even bother to look at the review. These cards also look like good overclockers with them hitting 1200mhz core with no volts added. At these clocks they are trading blows with the 7950 and sometimes getting close to the 7970. With a little voltage added it will be interesting to see what can be achieved.

I do agree that the prices are too high but to say 6950 performance is not telling it like it is.

The problem is what the card does out of the box. Not enough.

Sure, some will see the "value" in overclocking it, but the very fact that you absolutely must overclock it just to see any worth in it at all sucks.

It's way too expensive.

This is OVERCLOCKERS.co.uk. Pretty much everyone on here will be overclocking. Granted some wont but the majority look at a cards overclocking as a feature. All that is wrong with this card is the price, apart from that its a pretty nice card with low power, heat and noise with good performance to back it up.

This is launch pricing as well with no nvidia competition as its all eol. I expect prices to settle down some more when nvidia finally get something worth while on the market. If the gtx680 is priced similarly to the 7970 then amd might have to drop prices from the top down.
