Hi,

Just bought a new machine a few months ago

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/time-for-a-new-gaming-pc-advice-needed.18872399/

It seems to be mostly working well with most games. Had a few crashes though especially with Modern Warfare (seems to be improving with updates). I often get micro stutters and slight pauses even on older games such as AC Unity and Battlefield V. Had artifacts in MW in single player (On certain character's faces occassionally)
The case exhausts also seem to get quite hot and the temp on card has gone up to slightly above mid 70 at times. Not sure whether that's normal

I have some speculative ideas...

1. Might need new case fans. There is a bit of play in one of the fans and the top of the case gets quite hot.

2. I use two power cables to the card ; Should I be using just one ? Can they be a different brand ?

Cooling is as follows....

Case has two exhausts, large one at top of case, one at rear top. One inlet lower front. Power supply at base of case (right side up). CPU fans both face towards the rear....

I'm using Radeon Driver 20.4.2

I use a Display Port cable with my Dell2311H Monitor

  • MSI B450-A PRO MAX (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Six Core 4.2GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
  • Patriot Viper Steel 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C17 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • Powercolor Radeon RX 5700 XT Dual Fan 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Car
  • Gigabyte 1TB M.2 PCIe x4 NVMe SSD/Solid State Drive
  • Seasonic Prime Ultra Snow Silent 650W 80 Plus Platinum Modular Power Supply
  • Arctic Freezer 34 ESports Duo White CPU Cooler - 2 x 120mm

What can I do to get the most from my card and make it run at it's best ?

Thanks for your help

More case fans are never a bad idea if you're in need of cooling. If I'm reading correctly, you have a lot more exhausts than intakes. That's generally an undesirable setup (it causes negative pressure and more dust for one thing), so I'd add at least one more intake and two if your case supports it. You should probably just switch the fan that's currently a top exhaust to an intake for a start. And it's better to use two power cables from your PSU to your graphics card than one, so that's fine. Definetly don't use cables from another PSU (even from the same brand) as the pinout may be different and things will go bang.

As for the 5700 XT, the absolute best thing you can do for it, and especially a budget model like that, is to undervolt it. AMD's driver software has the tools you need to do that built into it. I'd suggest looking up a few guides on Youtube to help you do it, as that'd be easier to follow than a text explanation. The end result will be a much cooler and quieter card for likely zero performance loss.

Thiose temps are fine really as I own the same card! but as said above, the in and outs need to tally in a PC really, it's something I've been really conscious of with mine now, with so much in it. So I have 3x120mm intake + 1x200mm intake and 3x120mm out that run higher rate so have a nice flow through the system.

What I would do pal is download OCCT, and run the 3D Test for 15 minutes, and record the GPU temp and Junction temp. iF THERE IS anything WRONG WITH THE CARD IT'LL ERROR BEFORE 15 MINUTES OR LOCK UP!

Mine at full whack on the same card is 77C/110C during maximums but I'm overclocked to 2031/1900 on 1.171mv. Come back with the results but agreed, if you're not about getting the max out of it, undervolt it to around 1.125 at standard GPU and mem speeds and see if tht helps.

BTW, warzone is terriblely buggy mate, even I have problems som days as it's patched almost daily nowadays!

70c is actually very good temps for a 5700XT, I would say AMD Drivers might be to blame. Do you have any overclocking tools installed? Some times conflics with the dirver. Also some people fixed their 5700's issues by running PCIe 3.0 instead of 4.0...somehow.

I'm not sure whether my case supports anymore fans ?

I'll start by turning the top fan into an intake. Presumably by replacing the fan the opposite way round ?

Although The following set up is how I have it....

Is it worth replacing all the old fans for some more efficient ones ?

That's Ok, I just find the cables for the Seagate a bit thin and twisty compared to my old OCZ ones... Might need to work on my cable management....

Did The tests a got 70C/91 on standard settings. Underclocked voltage to 1.125. But have yet to test it...

Thanks

There is no PCIe on 4.0 on B450 Tomahawk

Wow... I wasn't really expecting something that old using 200mm fans. Frankly, I don't think there's an awful lot you can do to improve airflow in that case, since it only supports a single front fan that's massively obstructed by the drive cages. I was more thinking along the lines of outright moving the top fan to the front, but obviously that isn't possible. A top intake isn't usually a good idea. I'd probably just leave it as you had it and think about moving to a more modern case with better airflow and fan support when you next do something with your build. The 600T is ten years old at this point and cases have moved on a lot since those days.

Played COD MP at the lower voltage much better temps (can no longer Fry an egg on the case). Still a few micro stutters though , on some of the more detailed maps. Could be network though.

only played Warzone about three times has a habit of booting me out. Need to try some of the other games to see how they fare...

Thanks

COD MP is really good now had no graphics probs. Completed AC Unity and have since bought AC Syndicate. Game is good but slower than I thought it would be. I lowered the voltage (as mentioned previously in the thread) and lowered the graphics to high. But find it is still slightly too laggy (no micro stutters though). What would be the best settings for the game and Radeon software ? and What sort of tests should I do when running the game ? what should I be monitoring ?

Thanks
