Ive just added one of these to my system. I have a antec sonata2 case and wonder what your thoughts are on whether or not I should keep the fan/air ducting in the case or not, as this pulls heat predominatley from the CPU and I worry about the X1900 overheating as many threads state it will get hot.

Also Ive a 3700 san diego CPU which ive currenly got running at 2.75. this is by way of 250 *11 and dropping the memory to a 333 divider as it's 2* 512 of corsair c2pt3200 ram.

the X1900XT Ive o'clocked so far to 680/790(manually) with ATI overdrive and this gives:

3dmarks2001 - 30667(seems a bit low my GTO2 gave 28k)
3dmarks2005 - 11569
3dmarks2006 - 5232

any observqations on these scores or room for improvement and on the case issue would be appreciated.

regards

Stuart

Ignore 2001 and 2003, your card will score lower on them as its running dx9c fully, if you forced XP back to old DX8.1 it would be higher ;)

About case, I use them in builds for customers but not gamming rigs, some sites say if you dont plan on using the addition fans you buy, remove it, I left it fitted but the cpu fan wont draw air hot out duct, it will suck air in from outside but may get some hot air from gpu area as thats got a smaller duct hole bellow, hense instructions say if you fit a fan for gpu (80mm) you must fit the cpu dutct fan (90mm) as not to starve cpu of cold air, hense the top fan is larger to stop bottom one stealing all air.

The funny thing is the case has a nice air inlet filter at front, but the rear duct doesnt, and out the box its sucks air in if you leave on so also dust.

Quick score updatge as got the x1900xt mem at 800.
3dmarks2005 - 11738
3dmarks2006 - 5363

Thanks for the reply in relation to the case. So do you think I should leave it on or off? I have no additional fans blowing in the case other than the standard one at the back.

Hi, personnally I've just got mine clocked to XT-X speeds as you will only get a couple of frames difference over that and produce the extra heat and shorten the cards life. Maybe I'm just chicken :p but unless you're just looking for the best benchmark scores gameplay will see no real benefit. I might change my mind if Arctic Cooling release Silencer for the x1900s though
