Is it suppose to sound like it purring? its quite annoying, not like a loud fan noise, just annoying.

its touching the metal part of the ultra-D chipset fan so maybe vibrating but im sure its not the freezer64pro fan

it does make a slight tiny hum... it would cos of the fan which has different stages of "loudness"

it is very quiet though, maybe it could be annoying for people who love total silence.

but if its resting on anything, or touching anything that could cause a slightly louder noise.

but it does purr ....

What the hell is "purring" supposed to be?

Anyway, I have the same card myself :) . It's quiet at idle, but when I start up a game it's noisy. But I flashed it to PE, so the fan has to spin a lot faster than normally to keep it cool.

^ its not like a usual fan noise, really hard to explain, but it doesnt change (the tone doesnt the speed it does it does) so im thinking it is suppose to sound like that

Is the stock cooler for that card pretty big and does it stick out pretty far like the nvidia 7800?

its a big stock cooler yes

needs to be for good cooling, its a beast of a card. i went from an x800gto and the size was a shock :p

but its great, its more than great, luckily i got it when it was on special deal when it was like £230 or something silly, i cant remember, but its fantastic... for my 17" monitor its more than enough for a good while for me.

p.s. i cant hear mine, only when the central heating is on in the house and ive been playing cod2 or fear for a good few hours, but i just turn my radiator off in the room :) stays cool

but im dreading the summer because the sun shines trough my window most of the day and it gets pretty hot

Ive an x850 cooler i tried out and i know what you mena, its kind of a whiring sound i get. Bloody annoying :o

At idle it should be almost indaudable. Ive got all my stuff in a antec p150 accoustic case, 2 x 120mm fans on 5v 2 92mm fans on 5v and the cpu cooler on 5v, theres a very slight noise at idle, obviously you can hear it when you play games, but i dont think its the graphics that make the remaining noise - unfortunately when i put a zalman on it corrupts after 10 mins or so thanks to the heat, even at 12v, so ive had to stick with it till the new coolers come out.
