Hi,

I have seen many a video where the video has no black bars top and bottom, but then to give a cinematic effect the next frame brings in the black bars top and bottom but does so in an animated way. Not sure of the correct terminonlogy, maybe animated letter boxing fits better?

I am unable to work out how to do this on Powerdirector but I haven't been using it long. Tried doing some searching, but have been unsuccessful.

I have found the below video for another product, but I think it resembles what I want to do well:

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

This is probably super late, and I don't use Powerdirector... but what I would do is apply the black bars as you like (I assume there's a filter for this) so you then have the 'correct' aspect for you. Then create a black rectangle and put it above the frame, and another below the frame. Then move the top rectangle down over time and the bottom one up (have a search for 'keyframes in powerdirector') to the desired position (right on your black bars from the filter), cropping the top and bottom of frame as necessary. Finally, remove the filter.

I use Avid, Premiere and FCP, and this is how I would do it (and have done it) in all - although with video editors there are about a dozen ways to do anything!
