Before I go ahead and purchase a license for PowerDVD 19 Ultra I was wondering if there was any other software that does the same sort of thing? I just want to watch Blu-rays and DVDs on my laptop. I'm not really bothered about the other features just now but they could be useful in the future. Any help would be appreciated.

If it weren't for wanting to watch Blu-Ray then you would have a ton of options but since you do then it's the best option by far since nothing else really seems to work very well. We went through this a few years ago because the wife watches them also on her laptop and PowerDVD was the only thing that just worked.

Thanks. I guess I'll buy a license then since I want to start watching some stuff soon.

vlc player?

I've used that on Linux before to play Blu-rays but it doesn't support the menus which is a bit of a pain. I don't mind with films normally as you can generally tell what the main feature is by the runtime but with TV series it becomes a real downer. I think I'll just go with PowerDVD as it seems like the safe choice.

PowerDVD is good for basic Blu-rays but be aware its a pain and has a ton of extra requirements if you want to watch 4k/ HDR Blu-rays. That was the only reason I stopped using PowerDVD.

I don't have a 4k Blu-ray drive in any of my PCs so that is not an option. It'll become a consideration the next time I buy a new PC though.
