Hey guys quick question here.

So we have been having a few problems with our PowerEdge. Basically we have four RAM sticks in, which we then experienced the server to lock up. We tested and it turned out to be 3/4 sticks. Once taken out the Server is fine. So we have bought some new sticks and replaced. Although the exact same thing is happening.

Im hoping its not a faulty board. Although i have also noticed the ROM battery needs changing. Would the battery being drained cause this? Its confusing me with it working with 2 less sticks in.

Thanks.

Oh and the event viewer isnt really showing much. Just the DHCP filling up (which it does) and the ROM Battery.

Thanks.

I personally would put money on it being the board. We have had 2 PE2950 boards go, though we could just be unlucky. When does it lock up? Randomly or at the same certain time?

The battery being drained shouldn't cause this at all. It's just there to keep the time and system (BIOS) settings whilst there is NO power.

You could try taking a can of compressed air to the DIMMS and see if that helps? If not i would contact DELL.

Yeah Dell will most likely be contacted with the cover we have. Just wanted to fix it myself haha.

Its locking up just as it gets to the login splash.
