I would assume you can. I mean my IBM thinkpad won't allow you to change the wireless card to a non-IBM firmware card, yet I have changed the CPU without issue. There may be some kind of BIOS key triggered by the change (which may require some kind of code/reset) but I have never heard of custom CPU's and usually these can be changed. It will of course void the warranty though.
