Powerful GPU less than 22cm length

What is the best graphics card I can get that is less than 22cm in length? Width and depth is not an issue, neither is price.

This is due to the restrictions of case and motherboard design. I do not wish to "botch" as this is a friends Acer PC and I am sure all warranties would be voided if I was to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as normal, thanks.

X1950pro is 21cm, 8600GTS is around 17-19cm.

I would get the x1950 pro personally, although as price isn't an issue just put it all in a new case and get something better. If it dies at any point just put it back in the Acer case (as long as it uses a standard ATX or mATX design), it won't void the warranty any more than intsalling a new graphics card will.

But there is the motherboard design issue to take into hand also. The power connections limit the card length to 22 cm. Would you say the 8600 GTS is better than the 1950 Pro? (res is going to be 1440x900). Which is better value for money in your opinion also?

Price is kind of an issue (perhaps a bit misleading, sorry) but we are hoping to stay beneath the £200 mark. Games to be played are BF2, GRAW and GRAW2, Prey, Quake 4 and games alike. Hoping to stay around 50FPS.

Thanks for the help so far!

Like I said, I would get the x1950 pro. It's the better card - much better value and slightly faster but it doesn't have DX10.

But its cheaper is it not? Do you have a good link that can compare the two? It's length is 21cm right?

Thanks!

edit: looking around it looks like the 1950 pro is trashing the 8600 gt but not the gts. Any thoughts?

The X1950Pro and 8600GTS are roughly on-par but the X1950Pro tends to win out.

On the other hand, the X1950Pro is £70. You won't find an 8600GTS remotely that low AFAIK.

Another vote for the X1950pro. A.nd the Ocuk card at £72.84 inc vat is great

My vote would prob be to use the money to upgrade the case and mobo
as he will prob need to anyway as i don't see gpu's getting any smaller.
I am assuming he likes games with that comment. If not 1950pro will be
a fine addition to his system.

I also reccomend X1950 Pro. Just got it - one thing I will say is the £70 one sounds like a jet taking off and it seems there is no way to stop it apart from getting a new cooler to add on to it - cracking card though, will be even better once I get the noisy fan sorted.

Thats not quite true, as soon as I got the jet taking off card I plumbed it into a fan controller, 30 seconds later its fine and it runs so cool temps are not a problem.
On full speed you wont hear the noise if wearing headphones or with volume loud, noise is roughly 40db, you dont actually need full speed as far as I can tell.

On BF2 it will handle everything. The only problem I had is with everthing full at 1600x1200, it needs more vram and a bit more clock speed. It will still do 50fps but not perfectly, at any lower res it will be perfect imo
