so read a lot of threads, to power one of those shiny new 4k monitors, for gaming.
(COD, wow, diablo, whatever)

As far as i can see, we have

780ti (£500)

titan black (£800)

titan z (stupid).

bang for buck, will 2 x 780ti's cut the mustard? or is there a better bang for buck option ????

Any new gfx cards coming between now and july/august ?

Greg's done a pretty epic review. If you're happy turning settings down a single 780ti will cut it on most if not all games, if you want higher settings then getting two top tier cards is a must.

A couple of 290's would be a good shout and you don't need all the AA like you do in 1080P gaming. If you wanted to max some games mind, VRAM could be a limiting factor on the 290. I just had a play on AC 4 and maxed settings for fun and see I was using 4.6GB usage. this isn't to say that is what is needed or just what is being cached and we will not know till an AMD owner gets a 4K monitor :)

why'd they make them stop at 3?

Also, would 3 6 GB 780s outdo 3 4 GB 290s? From all I've seen a 290 is slightly faster than a 780 and even moreso with xdma CF. The reason I ask is because now there will be the option of 6 GB on the 780, and of course, since this the topic of 4k gaming.

Will depend on the game imo 780's are better at some while 290's are better than others, Also depends on how well that particular game scales with xfire/sli

imo the 6GB 780's win if you want to turn AA etc up but i have no proof other than say greg's

Before you ask the above you really need to work out a budget and also how much you are prepared to compromise on settings.

For example 4 x Titan Blacks will max everything including Crysis 3 but will cost you about 3400 pounds

Two 780ti's will get close to maxing most things but will cost you just over 1000 pounds.

So the question is do you want to max everything or nearly everything when you answer that people can recommend cards for your budget.

Yea I have been keeping up with his posts on 4k gaming and am waffling on whether or not my 290s will be enough at 4 GB for a while, like atleast a year of running games maxed out.

I love the 290s, though they do get a little hot and suck some serious power lol. My brother, who lives with me, has a 780 with ACX Evga cooler and I love that set-up as well. Neither one of us is an AMD or an NVIDIA fan we just went with the best deals at the time. Never quite understood the allegiance to companies who you'll never know personally or who really care about you other than your $$ you have to offer. So in the end, I ask as someone who wants the best performance for the longest amount of time.

I will say drivers have been a frustration for me, I am anxiously awaiting these new wonder drivers NVIDIA is touting. Personally I think they're overhyped but I hope they deliver everything and then some. I am just gearing up for 4k, I want to be fully set up before I get a 4k monitor this summer though. Don't want to have to worry about drivers, VRAM, or anything of that sort, you know?

I want to run everything on max, with little or no AA at 4k... I want to be able to do that for a year or more. I do not however want to spend 1000$ (sorry I am American lol) on a GPU. Even the 780ti is a little overpriced imho. That is why I am asking about the 290 and 780 respectively. It's not a matter of budget with me, it is a matter of price to performance at a certain level... 2 or 3 card setups add into that. 1 780ti vs 1 780 in price isn't much, but it adds up to the cost of a 4k monitor in differences at 3 card set ups.

Going by your posts you already have a 290P, probably the best and cheapest way to go is to get another 290P.

This will mean you may have to lower the odd setting now and then but most of the time you should be at max or close to it. If you look at what gregster is posting with his two Titans it will give you an idea of what to expect as the Titans are about 5% faster than 290P CF.

If you find after some time that the above is not quite enough then you still have the option of adding a third 290P, but at this point you would probably want to water cool as well. Another problem with a third card is the driver support is not as good as it should be and sometimes you can get problems even if the drivers work.

I would not even bother with the 6gb cards unless you are going to buy 4 of them as that is what you would need to max Crysis 3 with max AA.

Ahh okay... And I already have Crossfired 290s. Just clarification.

I am ready to see how AMD is with there new full driver. I am getting a bit tired of these betas the past few months. Hopefully they can deliver 3 card support as well, but I doubt it.

Sometimes 3 card support is really good sometimes not so, if you get any problems it takes a few seconds to turn the extra card off.

I would give 4K a go with what you have now, I think for nearly everything you will be well pleased.
