hi guys...

i've just taken delivery of my X800 XT PE, it has an aftermarket cooler which needs to be powered separately which is fine (which leaves the one white fan connector redundant) but there are 2 power connections at the end of the board, one is floppy-size power and one is a full molex connector... which one do i use to supply the extra needed juice to the card? surely not both?

my second question is will the 220W PSU be ok with this card? didn't really think about that originally :(

If it's a Shuttle PSU then yeah, it'll be fine. They're fantastic PSUs, I can't understand why no other manufactuer is able to make theirs as efficient. Either that or Shuttle are the only firm that doesn't lie about wattage.

My X850XT only has a single power connector on it. Try it with just the one and see if it works...

here is a pic of the exact thing i bought...

its got the purple molex connector and yellow floppy...

wonder why it has an extra power... yeah i'll have a go with just the molex but would still like to know what the deal it (don't have a manual or anything to check against...)

You only need to use a 4x pin molex in the purple connector, i forget what that yellow floppy type connector is for now. :)

The yellows for this (taken from an old review) :-

The yellow connector you see on the end of the board is for analog video capture. This feature is seen on some graphics boards in Europe, where you’ll run a cable to a composite video connector on the front of your case.

I think you'll actually find that a lot of hardware manufacturers pluck wattage/amperage requirements out of thin air and whose values have absolutely no relation to what is actually needed to run the graphics card/CPU/etc.

But yes, Shuttle PSUs should generally be ok. Part of the demo for the X800 series of cards was to stick them in an un-modded Shuttle (with a 250W PSU) and show that the system was perfectly happy.

Shuttle PSU's are the same as those used in redundant power supplies for servers, but with out the failover circuitry.
It's server quality components inside.
