After installing a new PSU to last for around a week before i get my smartpower back from repairs. The whole pc boots up fine, and gets to the XP login screen, where, the whole pc just powers down. As if the electricity had gone off, and the first time it happened, my parents said that all of the other electrical sockets had gone off too, but after that, it was just the computer.

Its a Qtec 400W PSU by the way.

I know its probably all you've got until you get a new smartpower, but really you're better off with no psu than that.

Almost certain its the psu, don't use it.

I've just been on the phone to the suppliers, and they seem to think it could be the motherboard, as the power supply doesnt actually have an on/off, he said that the motherboard, but surely if it was the motherboard, it wouldn't even POST? Or it would beep?

Edit: When the original power supply died, it started sparking inside, but didnt shut down, I manually shut it down from the power switch, suggesting that it didn't take out the motherboard.

Don't do anything until you've got your smartpower back and can test it with that.

If the psu can't deliver enough power, it could easily cut out. I'm almost certain its the psu.

Edit: An Antec psu is very unlikely to have destroyed any components, the q-tek on the other hand will happily fry your components.
