I guess if I buy 4 (as in two pairs), I can technically provide connection to 3 devices (with the 4th being plugged in to the router)...?

So, irrespective of the potential security issue, here's my issue:

3 story house:

Upstairs = 1 smart TV (bedroom)
Middle Floor = 1 smart TV, Sky box, Sonos network player (Lounge)
Lower Floor = 1 smart TV, Apple TV (Kitchen and relax room)

So, router is at the front of the house on the middle floor. Bang one of these ports into a single Ethernet powerline, then get two of the 4 port powerlines for middle floor and lower floor and another single for the upstairs room.

Would that work?

Trust me, it will be a pig to run Cat 5 everywhere, and there aren't enough ports on the router for all the devices and we don't really want a massive switch, which kind of leads me on to my next question...

If, at the router, I use one powerline (single socket) adapter, and in the middle lounge, a 4 port powerline adapter and plug 4 devices in, I have to assume the potential powerline adapter speed is divided by 4 if all devices are on and being used at once?

My thought is:

3 x 4 port powerline adpaters for each of the rooms (for flexibility) and then a single port powerline adapter at the router
