Powerline bandwidth loss

Given the significant price difference I’d stick with the 200 Mbps option for the moment.

If they like your mains wiring then they should be good enough. If they really don’t like your wiring then having the 500 Mbps versions probably won’t help very much anyway.

Smallnetbuilder.com has some reviews available that you might find useful when making the decision. It’s also well worth trawling back through the last few months on this sub-forum.

I assume a hardwired connection isn’t an option?

200 or 500 Mbps? (I've got BT Infinity 2 which BT claim should give me 50)

In my home, the TP Link 200's get me about about 60/70Mbit of real speed. A friend has just had his Infinity doubled and I think he is so close to the cabinet that he is just about bottlenecking his connection on the same Powerlines.

OK guys, thanks.

A hard wired connection would be possible but it would involve a little architectural work if I wanted to avoid running wires down the hall. The modem/hub is in the hall and my PC is in the living room. In between is the kitchen and all the metallic bits in there wrecked the wireless signal which is why I went Powerline in the 1st place.

I also have various media devices powerlined on the network; Humax digibox, amp & dvd player (not to mention 2 phones and an iPad on wifi). Would these leach bandwidth even if they weren't in use at the time of any test? I also tested speed through my iPad (wifi) and only got about 10.

Finally, I got some really weird results from BT Speedtester; e.g. ~ 2 when other sites were showing high twenties.
