Powerline Data Flow

ahh nice, i was just about to make one of these threads, here's my example and I'd like to know if i copied a file from the media server to my pc, does the data have to flow via the main router (bebox, ground floor) or my local switch (which is a router that gets all its routing information from the one on the ground floor, and therefore becomes a switch and no longer has its own ip address that I can see):

This is what Windows Network Mapper has to say about it all, unfortunately there's no way i can identify what switch is what according to the diagram:

You dont need a router to make a powerline network, they allways have a star like layout keeping track of other adapters, security status, connection speed and of any connected ethernet devices.

I would be pretty confident they are point to point only i dont think they can relay inforamation even if that might improve speeds. they will not refer back to a router or switch unless they have to go thorugh it

not sure you can have redudant linkages

It would be interesting to know how the devices handle the potential for mutiple paths on some ring main layouts though perhaps its not sigfncant given the speed of transmission

I was thinking, if that's the case, then how come my connection doesn't get maxxed out?

I'm under the impression that there is a bottleneck somewhere, where the data should be flowing directly but is instead being routed somewhere else.

Also, 4 of my powerline modules are set to "EP" (End point) mode and one set to "AP" (Access point) mode. Any idea how this is meant to change anything?

Which conection does not get maxxed out? Your best connection between Me and media is 136/110 m bits and thats duplex transmission ie throughput both ways

6.22 M bytes is not bad its about 50 m bits ignoring any error connectionn and other network traffic. The homeplug alliance reckon 80% of av plugs get 55 mbps thorughput ie both ways
