Anybody had experience with this method? thinking about using it for a console at the otherside of house to the wireless router

Cheers Neoni

I have my whole house networked via powerline using zyxel plugs - have been on constantly for a least 2 years and not missed a beat. Have one by the router, another in my study to use with my pc, and one by the tv which is connected to a cheap 8 port switch - to this i connect my panasonic tv, sky hd box, HTPC, ps3 and xbox 360 with no problems at all. It also maxes out my 15mbit internet connection too :)

It has worked flawlessly for me, others may disagree, but i think they are great :)

its the only clean option i can think of you recommend the zyxel plugs then?

i just want to do it like this in the study:

Netgear Router/Belkin Wireless Router (Hooked Up) so from Netgear - Powerline Plug - Mains in Office - Mains in Game Room - Powerline Plug - Xbox 360

should work right?

Not sure what you mean about the bit in bold ( i assume you mean mains wiring). If you wanted it for the xbox 360 only it should be

Netgear --> Ethernet cable to Powerline plug ---> Powerline Plug + ethernet cable --> Xbox 360

where the red arrow is the mains wiring! It literally is plug and play.

I got the Zyxels on the cheap and they have been rock solid - i have heard of others manufacturers dying tho. i have had a good experience with them. What i liked was the fact that i can use a cheap switch and connect so many peripherals to go through the one adaptor. All powerline adaptors will work the same.

It is very hit and miss with powerline plugs. Totally depends on your house wiring and electrical cleanliness (phone chargers, power bricks etc). Personally with my Netgear powerline plugs, I cannot get anymore than about 10mbps between 2 rooms (different ring mains) which is not enough to max my net out :(.
James

edit: 100mbps Netgear plugs btw.

Got a couple of 200mbps powerline adapters so that the PlayOnHD mini downstairs can access my server upstairs.
Works well, and generally they show an access speed of around 130mbps so you do lose some speed depending on your wiring.

They work great, used them for a short while a year or so ago.

However it added about 10ms to the latency of my connection for those computer connected via homeplug, and seeing as I game online and am totally anal about these things I just ran Ethernet cable under the carpets instead.
