Hello guys, need some advice, I have BT infinity which runs great get around 38 down, and 9 meg up, Problem I have had is that my house has some dead zones where my wireless does not reach. So I bought a TP wireless extender that connects to my current router which is a Dlink 655, which runs fine, but because of this set up I lose more then half my speed. I get around 5 meg down and 4 meg up. So I was thinking of buying a Powerline that would connect my router to the extender, Would this work to push my speeds up? Any recommendations on a power line. Cheers

If the extender will reconfigure as an access point (and it should) you could connect it back to the router using a pair of Powerline adapters. Whether it would help with your speeds, or not, would depend on a number of factors.

What model is the extender?

its a TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point, I would assume it would :S thats why I am asking here as some power lines cost like £50-60 dont want to spend and find out it does not make a diffrence

Unless you're very unlucky AV200 Powerline adapters should be able handle 40/10 Infinity.

You can test the access point throughput by temporarily connecting it to your router with a network cable and trying it.

I have a TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless Range Extender (TL-WA730RE) configured as an access point connected via two TP-Link AV200 powerlines and is works flawlessly. Fantastic wireless signal even down at the end of the garden. Transfer rate is around 60mbps.

I,m abit green on powerlines ..so do you have to plug the laptop into the adaptor in the mains or do they work like a wireless card inside the laptop ?

Connections will be :

Patch lead to connect router LAN port - 1st AV200 Powerline

Patch lead to connect Access Point to 2nd AV200 Powerline

Set wireless range extender to Access Point mode, turn off DHCP etc.

Give router and AP the same SSID and wireless network key.

Select none overlapping wireless channels e.g. 1 and 7

Lap top will automatically connect to either the Router or Access Point dependant on signal strength.

Enjoy
