Powerline in the Garage causes instability across other devices

Hi guys,

Got a real odd problem. Was using a set of TP-Link AV1000 powerlines fine for years. Built a garden room off my garage so purchased an av1300 device to extend the network down to there for a Sky Q box using ethernet. This all works well!. Since doing that i was noticing some odd goings on on my computer thats also wired into the powerline network where it would just drop connection sometimes for a few seconds.

Noticed yesterday that my PLex server wouldn't play any content on my main TV in the house via the app but it would play on the Tv, via the powerline adaptor, in the garden room.

So doing some investigations I switched the powerline off in the garden room and all of a sudden the network became stable and i could watch plex on the main house TV again. Switch the powerline adaptor back on and the issue starts again.

I dont get great speeds in the garden room but its sufficient for watching HD TV and 4k netflix but i cant not have plex working in my house.

Has anyone had anything at all like this before?

If you had the garden room built and presumably ran power to it, why didn’t you run a network cable to it? I ask because obviously it’ll have a dedicated breaker in the property to isolate it and presumably another sub board in the ‘room’ to separate sockets/heaters/lights etc. so your PL path to the network is PL in room socket to room socket breaker, room main breaker, back to the house sub board, then house main board, then to the socket circuit and the next PL adapter. For context people struggle to get good performance jumping breakers on the same board, you are likely jumping way more unless you have done something really shady like just run an extension reel out.

Not a fan of powerline boxes myself. Run a cable via the power cable ducting if you can. Possibly a WiFi bridge which would give you good WiFi outside.

You could also try a surge protector on the switch (or router) on the basis that power is the source of interference (not seen that before!).

Setup some ubiquity AP discs they are PoE and will definitely help with your connection to the garage
