Powerline interference

So I bought myself a pair of TP 200 power line adapters and I wasn't blown away with the performance. I have just moved into a house which is about 12 years old and the wiring looks reasonable.

I struggle to get 35mb at times and streaming high def was hit and miss, sometimes it's fine but sometimes it buffers a lot.

So today I did a little experiment And unplugged everything from the house and low and behold my speeds increased to fairly consistent 75mb. The culprits seem to be phone chargers and lamps with energy saving bulbs.

My question is whether this is normal or is my wiring at fault? Perhaps the adapters aren't very good at filtering out noise?

I've experienced the same. I moved into a brand new flat (converted town house, so I assume the wiring was redone as well) and I use the same powerline adapters you do.

Seems if I turn on specific lamps, the speed drops significantly. But even with them all off, the speed isn't as good as plugging directly into the router. Just seems to be luck of the draw on the wiring.

EDIT: I'm on VM 60MB and only get about 30-40MB over my powerline (and wireless for some reason). Plugging into the router directly (i.e. sitting beside is and plugging in) I get the full speed.
