I currently have a phone extension cable running up the side of my house to my study where the computer is.
It is flaky to say the least. It's just been made worse by the addition of an Alarm system that's connected to the phoneline.
As a result of this my Internet connection keeps dropping. I have a Sky wireless router.
I've tried wireless connectivity and that's flaky too, so I have decided to try using a powerline connection connected to the main phone socket downstairs via a router.

Would this setup work?
Is there anyway I can omit buying a switch other than buying two seperate powerline adapters for upstairs?

Any ideas/suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance.

I've never used Powerline, but it looks fine to me.

Use a switch upstairs. You're still using two mains sockets (Powerline and switch PSU) and the switch will be faster should you ever exchange files between your PC and xBox or add more PCs.

You could connect the PC to one powerline adapter and the Xbox to another one to do away with the switch but as said the speed between the PC and Xbox would be reduced to that of the powerline transfer rate (mine do about 40Mbps).

Perfect guys. Thanks for your responses.
Could you suggest how I would configure the IP addresses and subnets?
I would want all the IP's to be static. I'm only a beginner when it comes to networks as you can probably tell! ;)

Does anyone know if these things work across ring mains?

My office downstairs is on a separate ring main to a room upstairs that currently has a very poor wireless connection. I was considering getting a couple of these, but wanted to make sure that they'd work first.
