Just wrote a long post about setting up a powerline network it asked me to sign in again when I clicked post and it got lost.

My position is that the wi fi side of my network is rubbish. I don't know whether its the route Virgin provided me or that fact I live in a densely populated area with many wi fi networks.

I want to set up a network using the power circuit in my house. and I have been looking at these 'TP-Link AV200 200Mbps Mini Powerline Starter Kit' It's only 40 quid for two adapters and they get good reviews.

I have the modem in my bedroom as thats where the phone line is, 2 computers in the attic and one in the groundfloor living room. So I assume I will need one adapter for the modem to plug into, one adapter in the attic using a ethernet hub for those two computers and an adapter in the living room for the single computer.

Will that system work? or do you have to have them in pairs? And if you have to use them in pairs, can you use more than one set per household.

I appreciate your input

Cheers

Yes

You'd just need three

Thank you,

I will go to overclockers tommorow to pick these up. Might treat myself to an extra 8gb of memory whilst I'm at it :)

Assuming that I have no cables and that no cables come with the kit, I will need:

modem to adapter
then
adapter to switch
hub to xbox
hub to desktop
hub to desktop
adapter to desktop

Am I correct in thinking that all these cables need to patch cables as opposed to crossover cables?

Cheers again

Would just like to say I have those and they are great dead easy to set up and much better than wireless for me :)

They do indeend come with two (albeit very short) cables. I've just picked these up from overclockers, just plugged them in, turned off wi-fi and all is sorted. I've gained a consistent connection, +6mbs and no drop outs. Excellent value for money

I also have a pair of the tp-link ones. Just plugged them in and they synced within 10seconds. Surprised at how easy it was!
